The paintable corner guards are a great way to protect your paint job when the weather turns cold. They offer little to no protection for the paint and allow your paint to dry completely when the sun comes out.

You can buy these guards from local hardware stores, or you can make them yourself. I like to drill 2-1/2″ holes in the corner of my door, screw a 4″ square of foam (for insulation) into the hole, and paint the corner with a water-based paint. The foam lets the paint dry and protects the paint from the elements, and the foam also lets paint drips off when it dries.

I think that the holes are a bit big, so I would suggest drilling them in at least 2/3rds of the way, and then painting them. I have yet to try this, but I am sure that is the proper way to do it.
