The “microstate” phenomenon refers to the fact that our thoughts are in fact made up of a mixture of a number of different, unrelated sub-parts. This is not merely an academic exercise, but a real-world fact. Think about your most treasured possession: your car.
When you drive your car, you are not only the driver, you are also the mechanic, the mechanic is the mechanic, etc. etc. etc. There are many other sub-parts that play a role in driving your car, so you are really just the sum of all these sub-parts.
While this is true in many real-world situations, it can be tricky to tell if something is a micro state. You can have a large number of different sub-parts, and the sum of all those sub-parts is not necessarily the same as the sum of your parts. Think about it: You can have a big, bright, hot day, but not necessarily a hot day.
So, we’re going to be looking at this topic in some detail.
It can be hard to keep a micro-state from spreading, especially when we’re talking about a small percentage of the population. There is no rule in nature that says the larger the number of sub-parts, the more spread out and dispersed the population becomes. Another factor that seems to influence the spread of microstates is the rate at which people move around. In order to be spread out you need to be moving faster than the microstate you are in, while it has a high chance of being spread out you need to have a high rate of movements. This is where microstates come in.
