At the very least the fact that we pay for so much fertilizer and spend so much time and effort spreading it means that we’ve been a little wasteful, but maybe we should do more. A 1 ton lawn may not seem like a lot, but it’s actually what we need to keep lawns, grass, and plants alive.
1 ton lawns are not a new concept. In the United States, they were historically referred to as “hectares” or “hectares and acres”. The term “plow” is much more common; 1 ton lawns are a type of plow.
As an example, the United States Census Bureau defines a “hectare” as “the amount of land required to maintain a single hectare of land, including the amount of space necessary to allow for cultivation and irrigation.” 1 ton lawns may sound like a lot, but it is actually small potatoes when compared to the amount of land required to maintain 1 hectare, or about 13 acres.
