I am all for celebrating the things that you love about your life, but you can’t possibly celebrate every single thing about your life on every single day. If you really want to be happy, you have to have some measure of measure of happiness.
There are plenty of things in life that we aren’t happy about, and if you don’t think you have a problem with that, you are probably missing out. For example, when I was young I was much more concerned with getting a girlfriend than I ever was about having a fulfilling relationship. As I got older, I became more focused on my career and relationships.
It’s like if you were to say, “I have a problem with my job.” It would probably come out sounding like a bunch of crap. But that’s true for many of us who work in the field we work in. Just because it’s the end of the world, or we’re missing out on something, doesn’t mean it’s a good thing. It’s just a bad thing.
When you get your head around the world and your career is over, it’s no different. There are plenty of fun challenges to be had in life. But these challenges have actually been more difficult to overcome than those that we’ve had the most success off the field.
This is why we talk about “hype” sometimes. It’s all too easy to be excited about something which just doesn’t work out in the end.
But even if you make it to the end of your career, like Charles Hulman, you still have to deal with the realities of the job. Its not like you just walk out the door and that is that. You dont just walk out the door and you are fine. You have to do the job, make the money, and then some. And that will never happen.
